WEEKS of fevered speculation have ended with the announcement of the final headliners of this summer’s Reading Festival.

Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro and alt-rockers Fall Out Boy take head up the action, sharing co-headline status at the gathering, just over the Oxfordshire border at Little John's Farm.

They join a bill already featuring Oxford’s Foals, dance act Disclosure, and US rock icons Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The fresh announcements, notable for their punchy live performances, reinforce Reading’s traditional credential as the home of full-throttle rock. The band’s will also play Reading’s sister festival in Leeds.

Fall Out Boy last played Reading in 2013, triggering one of the biggest crowds in the festival's history.

Speaking about their co-headlining spot, the band said: "It’s pretty surreal to hear we are going to be co-headlining Reading.

“Reading and Leeds was our first real festival experience outside of the US and, since the start, we have buckled in and had an insane and memorable experience every time we have played.

“This is it, the big one for us and we are excited to be a part of it."

Festival director Melvin Benn said: “This year really is a big one for Reading. Five headliners across three days – it’s a first for us and the UK Festival scene.

“We’re always looking to give Reading fans something new and this year isn’t going to disappoint. Biffy Clyro and Fall Out Boy are going to be incredible.”

Other fresh additions to the bill include synth-pop act Chvrches, indie-rockers The Vaccines, chart dominating hip hop star A$AP Rocky, Watford band Lower Than Atlantis, rockers Sleeping With Sirens, Welsh reggae-rock heroes Skindred, punk legend Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, heavy American icons Five Finger Death Punch and State Champs.

Skindred frontman Benji Webbe said he couldn’t wait to get to Reading’s boisterous Thames-side site. "You will see a lot of bands at Reading & Leeds Festival but there's nothing that will come close to the energy that Skindred will deliver and the vibes that will be rocking through the festival when we hit the stage!” he said.

“A performance not to be missed, we come in peace but we will leave you in pieces."
