INDIE-rock band Foals have unveiled a series of live dates at a series of quirky and intimate venues.

The Oxford band today confirm a full UK club tour - just a week before the release of their eagerly awaited fourth album. Tickets go on sale on Friday.

The shows include dates at the By The Sea event at the Dreamland pleasure park in Margate, and gigs in Cambridge, Liverpool and Norwich - but no shows in Oxford. The closest gigs to their hometown are Southampton's O2 Guildhall on November 13 and Bristol's Anson Room on November 15.

The Jericho band also play a previously-announced show at London’s Village Underground on August 25.

The album, What Went Down is released on August 28.

The lead single of the same name has already picked up 1.7 million views on YouTube and has received major support from national radio.

Follow-up single Mountain At My Gates features a ground-breaking GoPro interactive video.

Frontman Yannis Philippakis (vocals/guitar) and bandmates Jimmy Smith (guitar/keys), Walter Gervers (bass), Jack Bevan (drums) and Edwin Congreave (keys), recorded What Went Down at the Studios La Fabrique, in the south of France. The studio is located in the village where Van Gogh was hospitalised after chopping off part of his ear.

It (the album, not the ear) is available to pre-order on digital, CD, CD/DVD and vinyl formats, as well as limited edition box set which is available exclusively from Foals’ online store.

What Went Down will represent Foals’ fourth album after Antidotes (which reached number three in the charts in 2007), Total Life Forever (number eight in 2010) and Holy Fire (number two in 2013).

They have headlined the Royal Albert Hall, Bestival, Latitude and Parklife and appeared at Glastonbury and Reading.

They began life playing Oxford's Cellar, off Cornmarket, and have played seminal sets at the O2 Academy Oxford and Truck festival, in Steventon.

Honours last year include awards for Best Live Act at the Q Awards, Best Single for Inhaler at the NME Awards, and Best Live Act at The Sun Bizarre Awards.

They have picked up Mercury Prize nomination's for Total Life Forever and Holy Fire.
