INDIE-rockers The Charlatans have been named as the mystery headliners for this year's Truck music festival.

The Cheshire band, fronted by Tim Burgess, have tonight been revealed as top act for the festival, which takes place in Steventon, near Didcot, from July 17-18.

With 12 albums to their credit and a string of hit singles stretching back over 25 years, The Charlatans are among the biggest bands to have graced the festival, which will this year be held for the 17th time.

Truck's name refers to the festival's initial use of a flat bed tlorry trailer for a stage. It has since grown into one of the county's biggest festivals, with a diverse bill covering rock, pop, indie, country, acoustic and dance music.

Tim Burgess, who has had top 10 hits with tunes The Only One I Know, One to Another and North Country Boy, said: "I've seen and heard so much about Truck Festival. I'd always liked the sound of it and the line-up each year featured bands that I loved. I don't get to go to many festivals that we're not booked to play so I was secretly hoping they'd ask us and now they have, so, we'll see you there."

Organisers also announced a further 22 additions to the line-up also including Augustines, Darwin Deez, Ghostpoet, Lucy Rose, Eagulls and The Wytches.

The festival will also feature a stage curated for one day by Oxford record labels Alcopop and Big Scary Monsters, featuring Bo Ningen, Tellison, Brawlers, Talons, Waylayers, Woahnows, Delta Sleep and Freeze The Atlantic.

Also playing are Spring King, Nothing But Thieves, Beasts, Demob Happy, Allusondrugs, Solem Sun and Poledo.

They join previously announced co-headliners Basement Jaxx, Joy Division and New Order star Peter Hook with his latest band The Light, and up-and-coming artists including Saint Raymond, Slaves and Rae Morris.

Ralph Broadbent, Festival Director, said: “Truck has had the great pleasure of hosting many of the biggest and best indie acts over the years, but there is still a wish list of acts we’re yet to see on our stage.

"It’s quite surprising that The Charlatans have never joined us before but we’re totally chuffed to put that right this year. They sit perfectly among some of the up-and-coming talent that we’ve added too, like The Wytches and Lucy Rose.”

Weekend tickets are £79.50 from Truckfestival.com.
