Cornbury reveals Romany party band will top the bill on festival's closing night

THE organisers of one of Oxfordshire’s biggest music festivals have ended months of speculation by revealing their mystery headline act.

We can today reveal that Latin-pop act Gipsy Kings will top the bill on the closing night of Cornbury Festival.

Organisers had been in negotiation with an unnamed British star, but instead decided to sign the French/Spanish/Romany band for their Sunday night slot.

The Bamboleo stars join fellow headliners Jools Holland and Simple Minds at Great Tew Park, near Chipping Norton, over the weekend 4-6 July.

The festival is affectionately nicknamed 'Poshstock' because of its illustrious list of regular attendees - who include the Prime Minister David Cameron and his family, Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson, TV presenter Noel Edmonds and wealthy members of the Chipping Norton set, who congregate in its fenced off VIP area. Members of the Royal Family are also regularly spotted.

Festival organiser Hugh Phillimore said: “We wanted an act that would get the crowd dancing to finish off our traditional Sunday night hooley. We’d been waiting for final confirmation of a British star but at the last minute I decided to jump tracks when offered the Gipsy Kings.

"In 25 years of festival booking I’ve always wanted to sign them but never had the opportunity, so we are all incredibly excited that they’ve agreed to include us in their 25th anniversary celebrations.”
