WEST Oxfordshire’s very own  home grown hip-hop act Death of Hi Fi have finished recording the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album – and have released a taster in the shape of a new single.

The album, called Follow, is out early next year, but is preceded by a single, Swim Away, which sees  DJ/ producer Andy Hill from Witney, guitarist Dan Clear from Carterton, and singer Lucy Cropper from Long Hanborough, continuing to blend the hip hop, dub, trance and electronic of debut Anthropocene, while moving into new territory.

“Death of Hi Fi started as an experimental electronic hip-hop project but soon grew to take in all of our influences,” says Andy.

“We didn't want to limit ourselves to specific genres but rather fuse them into something new. 

“The new album is much more personal and deals with the pain of love, loss and redemption. 

“It's much more musically progressive than the first album as a result of Lucy's genius at writing top line melodies.  She has provided the inspiration to push ourselves into ideas we'd never have thought of before.”

And the single? “It is at first a blissful relaxing down-tempo rack but on inspection reveals an undercurrent of something more sinister.

"It is a look at a journey through a relationship, from initial serenity to failure and then back to that redemption.”
