Oxford heroes Ride cement what has been a triumphant comeback tour with a headline set this Sunday at the Field Day festival.

The indie-rock band, who only confirmed their reunion in November, have already delighted fans on a UK tour which began at Oxford’s O2 Academy.

This week Andy Bell, Mark Gardener, Laurence ‘Loz’ Colbert and Steve Queralt play dates in North America before arriving back in Europe for a set at Primavera Sound in Portugal, then touching down on home turf for Field Day in London’s Victoria Park – the last chance for local fans to see them before they again head off to play festivals in Holland, Germany, Japan and France. The show is their first UK festival appearance for more than 20 years.

Field Day takes place over two days, with Saturday’s proceedings headlined by Caribou, and also featuring Oxford singer-songwriter (and Radiohead drummer) Philip Selway, FKA Twigs, DJ Andrew Weatherall, Django Django, Jungle, Jolta, Rae Morris, Rat Boy, Spector, Sophie, Toumani & Sidiki Diabate and Tropics among many others.

Ride will be joined on Sunday by Wheatley’s Gaz Coombes (formerly of Supergrass and with an acclaimed new album Matador); Sonic Cathedral DJ Nathaniel Cramp, Patti Smith, Baxter Dury, Eagulls, Errors, Ex-Hex, Gulf, Hookworms, Justin Robertson, Savages, Yak and Viet Cong – along with many more up-and-coming names.

In a statement, Ride said: “We are very excited to be playing at Field Day.

“We look forward to wrapping it all up on the main stage on Sunday night, where we’ll be playing our first UK festival show since Glastonbury 1994.”

Field Day co-founder Tom Baker said: “I’m so excited! Ride have been a band I’ve loved for over 20 years, Dreams Burn Down was the first drum beat I ever learned. So to be part of them coming back to play their first live shows in 20 years is absolutely amazing and something I’ve dreamed of…”
