Astral antics in store at Oxfordshire music gathering

SPACE-loving synth-rockers Public Service Broadcasting, classical-electro-pop act Clean Bandit and drum & bass star Shy FX have been named as fresh additions to the bill at Oxfordshire's Truck festival.

The acts join scores of rock, pop, dance, folk, jazz and blues performers at the music festival, which takes place at Steventon, near Didcot from 17 to 18 July.

Also playing are headliners Basement Jaxx and Charlatans, New Order artist Peter Hook, and many others such as Slaves, Darwin Deez, Ghostpoet, Rae Morris, Eagulls, Honeyblood, Saint Raymond, The Wytches and Lucy Rose.”

Public Service Broadcasting consists of enigmatic duo J Willgoose esq and Wrigglesworth. Their set follows the release, this year, of their album The Race for Space - which recounts the story of space exploration in music and samples from original space craft and control room recordings and other sources.

“It focuses on the golden age of space exploration, from 1957 to 1972,” explains Mr Willgoose. “Space is something I’ve had my mind on for quite a while,” he says. “It’s one of the most impressive things
we’ve done as a species. And because of the enormity of the subject, it means we can try lots of things.”

Cambridge quartet Clean Bandit have cornered the market in fusing classical music with electro-pop. Their Truck appearance follows the award of a Grammy for their hit Rather Be.

Shy FX presents a stage of bass-heavy dance music in conjunction with Oxford's Switch collective.

Beats also come courtesy of Black Butter Records’ My Nu Leng, MOBO Award-winning garage duo DJ Luck & MC Neat, bass music two-piece GotSome and Switch resident DJs.

Other additions to the bill include Liverpudlian trio All We Are, indie-pop band Dog Is Dead, rock act The Bohicas, husband and wife duo Summer Camp, Australian trio DMA’s, singer Rat Boy, The Magic Gang, Neon Waltz, singer-songwriter Jake Isaac and up-and-coming indie act New Desert Blues.

Weekend tickets are £79.50 from Truckfestival.com.
