IT’s turning out to be quite a week for lovers of the cello – or indeed, anyone who loves interesting and challenging new music.
Tomorrow we have the fabulous Laura Moody doing her beautiful thing, then, on Wednesday, Oxford’s own cello genius Duotone shows what he’s made of by launching his latest album at the North Wall Arts Centre, in Summertown, Oxford.
One of our most talented and unusual homegrown musicians, Duotone, aka songwriter Barney Morse-Brown, has performed with multi-platinum artist Birdy and BBC Folk Award winners the Imagined Village, Chris Wood, Eliza Carthy and Oxfordshire’s Jackie Oates.
Wednesday’s show sees him showcasing his third LP Let’s Get Low – which features an impressive line-up of supporting musicians including Ged Lynch (Black Grape, Goldfrapp) on drums, David Rhodes (Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush) on guitar and Jane Griffiths on violin.
Tickets are £12 (£10 concs) from thenorthwall.com
