Californian hedonist to impart his hard-earned knowledge of the benefits of revelry

He has a reputation as one of the hardest partying men in rock, so it’s only appropriate that he should be invited to share his knowledge of revelry with students at the Oxford Union.

Californian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andrew WK will tonight deliver a lecture on The Philosophy of Partying, emphasising his belief in “positive power and celebratory self-confidence”.

He was invited to the venue, off St Michael’s Street, by musician Nick ‘Growler’ Fowler of the Oxford bands The Dreaming Spires and Ralfe Band. Growler works in the in the Humanities Division at Oxford University.

He said: “In my opinion, Andrew is one of Rock 'n Roll’s great philosophers."

Andrew (real name Andrew Fetterly Wilkes-Krier) is known for his songs Party Hard and We Want Fun. He joins a long list of distinguished speakers at the world-famous debating chamber, including the Dalai Lama, Winston Churchill, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mother Teresa, Yasser Arafat and US presidents Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.

Musicians invited to share their knowledge at the Oxford Union include Michael Jackson, Shakira, Jon Bon Jovi, Barry White, Dizzee Rascal, and Yoko Ono.

Andrew said: “I'm extraordinarily thrilled about my lecture at the Oxford Union. As a professional partier, I will humbly offer my insights into life as a celebration of not being dead. We will then have an open discussion about the Philosophy of Partying.

“As much as I hope to humbly impart whatever party wisdom I've accrued during my adventures, I'm equally excited to learn from the students and other experts in attendance. As someone who never went to college or university, this is a grand moment for me. No one is more shocked that my career in partying hard has brought me to this speaking engagement at Oxford!"
