COMBINE your love of history and nightlife this weekend by joining a series of fabulous events taking place in Oxfordshire’s museums.

Museums at Night, which begins today, is a nationwide programme of activities taking place after dark in some of our most inspiring spaces.

Among the most imaginative events takes place at Cogges Manor Farm Museum, in Witney, which tomorrow plays host to a light and sound installation by artist Alex Bradley.

The work, staged in collaboration with Oxford Contemporary Music, features storytelling and music from singer-songwriter Jess Hall and harpist Steph West. Expect dream-like effects in the orchard, a dressing up parlour and, best of all, a spooky tour of the manor house. It runs from 7-11pm and entry is £2 (free to children).

Also tomorrow, visitors to the Pitt Rivers Museum will be invited to explore the galleries by torchlight accompanied to the strains of Strange Folk, who will provide a-capella singing and strings.

More live music takes place at the Oxford University of Natural history while the Ashmolean, is holding a magic-themed evening with flamenco dancing and more music from harpsichord player David Gerrard, soprano Esther Brazil, and space-rock band Flights of Helios – who will provide a live score to a screening of the oldest surviving animated feature film – 1926’s The Adventures of Prince Ahmed.

* Further afield, electro-rock duo Public Service Broadcasting perform their groundbreaking EP The War Room beside the aircraft at the RAF Museum in Hendon, North London.
