Social eating and drinking is what we set out to achieve when we opened the Rickety nearly four years ago and nearly four years on I think we’re nearly there. Although I’m quite sure we’ll never be entirely satisfied with the space we’ve created, this summer we made some subtle but crucial changes to the pub that we don’t think will go unrecognised or appreciated.

We began by relaxing our style of service and making our food more accessible to those walking in off the street. Previously, we found that a large proportion of our customers we wanted in the pub were not able to get tables on busy nights, which was a shame because we loved the informality of being able to just rock up and get a table.

Now, although the restaurant is still available for bookings, the rest of the pub is set aside for anyone to walk in any time, find a table or ledge and order food or drink over the bar; changing the atmosphere for the better.

The food has also changed to suit this new-relaxed style of service; not in quality, just in style.

It’s still the same food our loyal customers would expect from the Rickety, just toned down a little.

More rustic, more price sensitive and far more social.

The food suits the situations you envisage spending with good friends; socialising, eating, drinking and laughing.

We have also given our drinks list a face lift, boasting new barrel-aged cocktails, home-brewed gins and of course for the winter season our infamous mulled wine. Our wine list has also been overhauled too. Less esoteric, smaller but more rounded in choice, we offer only what we know and like.

Finally, as we move forward, we want the Rickety to simply be a social space for people to enjoy, so that is why we are hosting the first New Year’s Eve lock-in Jericho that we know of.

This NYE we’ll be clearing out the restaurant to make space for local live music and dancing to take us into 2015. Burgers served 6-10pm, drinks served till very late, this really is not a party to miss. See you there…
