What do they say? Time flies when you’re having fun?

Well, this last month at The Varsity Club has gone by in a blur which must mean we have been having a whole lot of fun! Since we opened the Roof at TVC in June it has been non-stop. To say we have been busy is the understatement of the year as the weather gods decided to bless Oxford with hot sunny days and warm languid nights, meaning we were much busier more constantly than we had anticipated. The good folk of Oxford have come out in force to check out the view and we have loved watching people step out on to the Roof for the first time and utter the inevitable “Oh wow!” as they cannot believe their eyes.

It is truly magical up there and we have seen a great mix of people of all ages, which is genuinely gratifying. It helps that you can get a cold beer or a Pimm’s in a jam jar or a bottle of bubbly to go with the view.

Our new food menu has gone down a storm too and continues to evolve as we see what customers like and want. Like any new operation it has not been without its teething problems but the customer feedback has been great. The number of private party bookings has been a real endorsement too. The best thing was when the first Facebook posts and tweets started to come through of people posting pictures of themselves on the Roof, drink in hand with a happy, smiling face.

We just love that. It’s what we are all about – providing a great experience.

A roof terrace is the obvious place to go in warm weather, but we are looking ahead to après-ski style parties with outdoor heaters, fur throws, warm blankets and mugs of hot chocolate and vin chaud.

And incredulously (well, I was incredulous anyway) we are taking bookings for Christmas parties (you’ve got to book ahead if you are a large group it seems) and so I leave you with the thought of twinkling lights and hot toddies under the stars (but in the meantime long may this summer continue)
