Angus Henderson talks about his experience at George Street's Giraffe restaurant

What was it like?

I thought it was a very nice place. It wasn’t too crowded and the staff were very helpful but not too clingy. It had quiet music in the background so you could still speak and be heard.

What did you have?

I had the Chicken Potstickers (£5.65), fried chicken dumplings with orange, carrot, miso glaze and soy-chili sauce for starter. To drink I had a Hippy Hippy Shake (£3.65) which had pineapple, passion fruit, mango, banana and pomegranate in it. For mains I had a Rodeo Chicken Burger (£11.35), which is grilled chicken breast with melting cheddar, grilled mushrooms, barbecue sauce and onion rings with lettuce, tomato and mayo, although I had it without the cheese or mushrooms. For dessert I had a Rocky Road Sundae (£5.95), which is a double chocolate and very vanilla ice cream with marshmallows, chocolate brownie and warm chocolate sauce.

What was the food like?

My chicken potstickers were scrumptious – they were really soft in the middle and crispy on the outside. My shake was thick and sweet. My rodeo burger was great, the chicken was moist, and the onion rings were perfectly cooked. My dessert was a little bit too dark for my taste.

Who did you go with?

My best friend Toby and my brother.

What did they have?

Toby had Garlic Focaccia Chips with marinara dipping sauce (£3.95), a hippy hippy shake and for main a Chorizo Sausage Carbonara (£8.95), which is smoky paprika spiced Spanish sausage, garlic, linguine pasta, white wine, creamy sauce and Italian hard cheese. For dessert he had a rocky road sundae. My brother had Cajun Chicken Tenders with raw slaw and chipotle aioli (£4.95) and to drink a Good Vibrations (£3.95), which is granola, natural yoghurt, banana, apple, strawberry, pineapple, orange juice, semi-skimmed milk and honey. For main he had the Chipotle “Nacho” Chicken Burger with guacamole, chipotle chicken breast, smoked cheddar, nachos, black beans and cilantro crema, served with corn chips and hot salsa (£6.25). They both want to go back again as soon as possible.

High points?

The staff were really nice and helpful.

Low points?

The rocky road sundae was too dark for me.

Would you take a girl on a date there?

Yes, because there is so much good food to choose from and it is right in the middle of town.
