A new Caribbean restaurant Spiced Roots is opening up on Cowley Road at the end of May, the first of many apparently. Situated very near Hi-Lo the original Jamaican eating house, we wonder if it will be pistols at dawn?

Spiced Roots aims to give us a genuine Caribbean Experience. The food has been created and developed in house by world famous chef Hasan Defour using fresh homemade, and locally sourced ingredients. (Hasan was chosen to travel across the Caribbean with celebrity chef Gary Rhodes for his TV series ‘Rhodes across the Caribbean’, cooking the region’s best dishes with some of the Caribbean’s most respected chefs)

World renowned Rum ambassador Ian A. V Burrell will provide suitable drinks that complement the food. Full food page to follow. Opening on May 28. www.spicedroots.com

Fight Bladder Cancer’s stylish new Wee Bookshop And Café in Chinnor opens its doors this month. The charity is bringing a friendly new food-led experience to Chinnor – and a new face to charity retailing at the same time.

The bookshop and café will be serving delicious food and hot and cold drinks, as well as a comfortable sofa area and magical children’s space. There will be a range of excellent local crafted items for sale and chugging around the shop is a model railway with a train steaming its way along the tracks above the bookshelves.

Open every day serving freshly prepared food from its own kitchen and no fewer than 7 different coffees – outside, is a courtyard garden space as well as cycle racks and plenty of car parking behind the shop. Find out more about The Wee Bookshop And Café email bookshop@fightbladdercancer.co.uk
