A friend took me to Treacles in Thame for coffee one morning and it was such a lovely treat; I had to return for afternoon tea.
The charming cafe, found on Thame High Street, is inviting, warm and comfortable with eight to 10 tables downstairs.
We settled ourselves at a round table in the window and a friendly waiter came to take our order.
There were so many cakes to choose from we really had to see them, so went up to the counter for a better look.
What a selection! All the usual cakes were there: chocolate fudge, Victoria sponge, lemon drizzle, as well as cheesecakes, tarts, flapjack and brownies plus a great gluten-free choice.
We ordered the afternoon tea, (a choice of 14 teas or coffee) and five sandwich fillings of your choice, as well as a scone with clotted cream and jam.
The children tried the exotic sounding milkshakes: the Mars Bar variety and a banana and strawberry which all caused great excitement.
The sandwiches were made of thickly sliced beautifully soft white bread, no dainty little numbers here, which came with a side salad and crisps, which we all enjoyed very much.
The Oreo cheesecake was amazing and very addictive, the homemade scone was delicious too, and the pear and chocolate tart a very elegant addition to the tea’s line-up.
All-in-all Treacles was a great tip off.
We loved our teatime experience there and they should be proud of their friendly team.
