What a difference a week makes

By First Timer

At last I am over the sleeplessness that has dominated the last couple of weeks - thank goodness - and the general fuzzy headed pregnancy feeling seems to be lessening.

I am less of a snappy grouch and have found the world to be a much better place than it was last week.

I’ve finally started to put on weight, not a great deal, but enough to stop me feeling like a fraud. My friends and family can finally see this pregnancy thing I’ve been going on about is really true, and I can’t help but keep putting my hands on my stomach, even in public, so even a slight bump gives me the perfect excuse to do this. Aside from the baby bump, I am well on the way to developing a fantastic bosom - I think this calls for a lingerie shopping trip!

The strange food thing continues. The scents of a random collection of foods, which before I was perfectly fine with, now turn my stomach. A colleague brought a couple of packets of ground coffee into my office this afternoon - I had to hustle him out pretty quickly, I just couldn’t stand the smell. And the smell of food from the some of the cafe tables in Oxford has me striding past at speed - it sometimes feels like there is a minefield of dodgy smells out there!

I bought a baby-related thing a few days ago. It’s one of those devices for holding the lap-belt across your legs instead of your stomach. It feels remarkably comforting, it’s not just knowing that this makes the baby safer, I suppose it’s that it feels like I’m taking care of the him/her in an extra way.

Every week that goes by makes me feel more secure, now it's week fifteen and I am well into the second trimester, according to the many websites out there the baby is 4 inches long - it’s all adding up slowly but surely - it feels great but I am keeping perspective on this (I hope!).

Well, back to my food-dominated life...
