A PRIMARY school in Witney wants to create a new entrance and reception area.

Batt Primary School, in Marlborough Lane, has applied to create rooms for special needs lessons and meetings in a plan costing £150,000.

Headteacher Chris Payne said: “Visitors desire a better entrance, particularly in the morning with visitors, parents speaking to staff and children walking to classes. It is congested and not conducive to a good start to the day.

“For a school our size, we need to improve our provision.”

Batt’s pupil numbers have risen to 308 and the school recently earned an “outstanding” Ofsted rating.

Mr Payne has applied to the Diocese of Oxford for funding and hopes work can start within three years.

a bigger reception and rooms for meetings does not sound like a high priority considering all the cut backs
