Darren Patterson gave a strong hint about his likely first-choice XI for next season when Oxford United's squad numbers were announced.

James Constable and Jamie Guy were given shirt numbers 9 and 10 and evidence that Yemi Odubade may get more opportunities on the wing rather than up front came when he was handed No 7.

Matt Day, hoping to start the season at right back, gets his wish of the No 2 shirt ahead of teenager James Clarke.

Out-of-favour defender Alex Jeannin has gone on trial to Mansfield Town, who were relegated from League Two in May.

The French left back, who has hardly featured in pre-season for Oxford United, is hoping to impress new Stags boss Billy McEwan in friendlies against Ilkeston and Derby County.
