ABINGDON-based RM Education, a leading provider of technology for learning, has developed a product designed to help visually impaired and dyslexic people.

The new product, called ReadRight, was developed by John Hampton, a quality control administrator at RM Group company, TTS. His design was the winning entry in RM’s annual Entrepreneur of the Year competition, which invites employees to come up with bright ideas.

Mr Hampton said: “ReadRight is appealing because it is inclusive – people who may have thought e-books weren’t for them can now take advantage of the same technology as everyone else.”

The device, which works with the Kindle Keyboard 3G e-reader, is already on sale at RM.com, and from Monday will also be available from Amazon at £12.99.

It is a leather-style cover for a Kindle that incorporates a cover for the screen — similar to covers already available for conventional books which have been proven to help many visually impaired and dyslexic people.

Mr Hampton, who will receive a share of the profits, added: “It stops glare and also stops the text appearing to jump around.”
