AN estate agents is to open in the former Bicester home of an electronics shop that closed after 95 years in the town in July.

Fine and Country will move into the former Wadley’s electronic shop in Market Square later this month.

Keith and David Wadley closed the shop in July.

Latest Business news:

Keith, 62, said: “We have stopped trading because the shopping environment for electronics is completely different now from what it was.

“People buy them from the internet and supermarkets now.

“Our main business has always been the service industry so that is what we are going to focus on.

“We want to keep our core customers happy.”

The shop has been based in Market Square since 1958 and was previously in Causeway from 1919.

Keith and David’s grandfather Harry opened the store after he returned from the First World War with a fascination for radios.

It was then taken over by their parents, Betty and John, before it passed to their sons.

Keith said: “We are very fortunate to have a superb band of loyal customers and we would like to thank them for their support throughout the years and we look forward to our centenary year in 2019.”

He said: “If we were going to relocate we would be looking at going into Pioneer Square, that is the main shopping area now.”

He said he was looking to retire in the coming years and David, 52, would then take over. Fine and Country have yet to comment.
