MEMBERS of a gang that abused young and vulnerable girls as part of a sadistic child prostitution ring will serve at least 95 years in jail.

A judge at the Old Bailey told the men yesterday they had caused “immense psychological harm” to the girls, aged between 11 and 15, who they groomed, drugged, raped, and sold to strangers for sex.

Five of the seven men were handed life sentences and two were given seven year terms for the crimes, which happened between May 2004 and January 2012.

Judge Peter Rook in his sentence said the gang, from Cowley, in Oxford, had put their victims through “sheer torture” and their actions had been “truly evil”.

All of the men remained emotionless as they were sentenced to nearly a century in jail between them before a packed court room. Judge Rook said: “There can be no doubt you have blighted their lives and robbed them of their adolescence.

“You have been found guilty of a series of sexual crimes of the utmost gravity, the exploitation and abuse of young highly vulnerable girls over a very long period of time.

“On occasions the depravity was extreme. You targeted the young girls because they were vulnerable, you subjected them to repeated abuse and this was a pattern that repeated itself over and over again.

“Each victim was groomed, coerced and intimidated. This involved planning.

“You would build up their trust and ply them with drink, drugs and the attention they craved.”

Judge Rook also criticised the police and social services, who he said had missed key “tell-tale signs” of abuse.

Akhtar Dogar yawned in the dock as he was sentenced to at least 17 years for the rape and prostitution of three girls under 15. His brother Anjum was given the same.

Judge Rook said to them: “You coerced (one of the girls) into providing sex to a vast number of strangers. Sometimes the sex was photographed, no doubt to attract more customers.”

Mohammed Karrar, who refused to come up from his cell to face the judge, was also given a life sentence and will service the longest minumum period of 20 years.

His younger brother Bassam was told he will serve at least 15 years behind bars.

Judge Rook said the brothers committed “dreadful” sex crimes against one girl, who was just 11 when they began to rape her and sell her to be used for gang sex at parties.

Mohammed Karrar branded the child, sexually assaulted her with a baseball bat, and forced her to have an illegal abortion when he got her pregnant. He committed similar attrocities on another young girl, named as Girl 3.

To Mohammed Karrar, the judge said: “You knew (Girl 3’s) age, you groomed her so you would have a hold on her.

“You treated her as a commodity.”

Father-of-three Kamar Jamil was given a life sentence, of which he will serve a minimum of 12 years.

Judge Rook said he was a “follower not a leader”, so his abuse did not have the same “brutality” as others.

Assad Hussain and Zeeshan Ahmed, who were both found guilty of two counts of sexual activity with a child, were each given seven years.

To Hussain, Judge Rook said his actions will have “compounded” the “harmful” sex abuse in the girls’ lives.

To Ahmed, he said: “This was not a genuine relationship, this was exploitation.”

Specators in the public gallery wept as the judge summarised their crimes.

The judge paid tribute to the victims, police and the social workers who helped the girls.
