OLDHAM Athletic must focus getting the simple things right when they visit Oxford United after their Emirates FA Cup humbling, according to skipper Peter Clarke.

The Latics were knocked out 3-2 at non-league Lincoln City on Monday night, after which manager Stephen Robinson apologised to the travelling supporters.

It did little to help the confidence of a side second bottom in the Sky Bet League One table.

Clarke told the Oldham Evening Chronicle the key to finding a response at the Kassam Stadium will be on rediscovering the parts of their game which were missing at Sincil Bank.

He said: “The performance, especially in the first half and maybe for 55 minutes of the contest was nothing short of embarrassing to be honest.

“We knew it was going to be an ‘up and at them’ cup tie, but we didn’t step up and perform.

“We didn’t do all the horrible, nitty-gritty things which are demanded not just in a cup tie, but in every game.”

He added: “We have got to go back to basics and if we do that then we can play some good stuff.

“You have to win the battle first and against Lincoln, we were left wanting.”
