SHANE Butlin struck four times to hand Steventon a 5-1 home win over Hanney United in the first round of the North Berks Cup, writes PHIL ANNETS.

Jamie Speer scored their fifth goal, with James Bishop hitting the consolation for Hanney.

Sutton Courtenay were hammered 6-1 at Division 3 side Hungerford Town Swifts, courtesy of an Adam Maycock four-timer, a Gareth Franklin effort and an own goal.

Rhys Griffiths netted for the visitors.

Division 4 side Blewbury also caused an upset with a 3-2 away win over Harwell Village of Division 3.

Gareth Fenton and Wayne Robins scored for the home side but goals from Charles Jamieson, Cameron Hollick and Ewan Ross won the tie for Blewbury.

Kennington Athletic took their higher-league visitors Compton all the way to penalties with a 2-2 draw, only to go down 5-3 in the shoot-out.

George Lovegrove and Foley Sercombe netted for Kennington, matched by goals from Jack Fisher and Charlie London for Compton.

Division 3 strugglers Benson Lions were hammered 12-0 by Division 2 leaders Turnpike Sports, with Ashley Beckett hitting a hat-trick, Tom Hitchcock and Terry Amor both scoring twice and Nick Brookes, Luke Campion, Gary Dredge and Perry Watts goals, as well as an own goal, completing the rout.

North Oxford breezed through their first match in the competition as goals from Kassim Abdilahi, Paul Kovacs, Dean Boyles and Jack Hinkin gave them a 4-0 win at Hagbourne United.

A four-timer from James Wilkins helped Grove Rangers to a 7-2 victory at Division 5 Hanney 66 Club.

Mike Davies, Luke Alder and Richard Bailey scored their other goals with Paul Robinson and Andy Alder netting for the lower league side.

Uffington United won 3-0 at fellow Division 3 outfit Union Street thanks to goals from Nick Frost, Tom Fila and Louis Butler.

In Division 1, Drayton brought Abingdon Town’s 100 per cent record to an end and preserved their own in the process with a convincing 3-1 away win.

Kieran Davies scored for Abingdon but goals from Danny Curran, Ashley Seamark and Trijon Mala won the match for Drayton.

League leaders Berinsfield maintained their own perfect record with a 2-1 win over Kintbury Rangers.

Tom Maloney scored for the visitors, but Max Palmer’s double ensured Berinsfield’s winning start continued.

Wallingford Town moved up to third spot after their 6-3 win at Long Wittenham Athletic, with Ashley Searle hitting a hat-trick alongside goals from Sam Larking, Camden Laver and Jack McLaughlin.

Joe Murphy, Matt Saunders and JR Willis scored in vain for Wittenham.

Faringdon Town got their first points of the season with a 2-1 home win over East Hendred.

Jamie Hopgood and Derren Harrington scored their goals with Sam Belcher replying for Hendred.
