ADI Yussuf scored twice for the second week running to give Oxford City a 2-0 win at Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

Following on from his brace against Brackley the previous weekend, City’s leading scorer took his tally to 12 goals in the league by striking once in each half to make it back-to-back victories.

Spanish goalkeeper Salva de la Cruz looked comfortable on his debut, while French midfielder Mamadou Fofana also made his first appearance for the club from the bench.

City were dominant in the opening 25 minutes as they repeatedly carved open the Celtic back line.

The hosts were caught out by a simple ball over the top to Yussuf inside the first ten minutes, but the striker’s shot flew narrowly over.

An excellent cross from Alejandro-Adrian Santiago found Yussuf lurking again, but his header was tipped onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Lewis King.

And King again stopped Yussuf moments later, getting down well to block at the striker’s feet after he had been played in by Marlon Jackson.

But it was only a matter of time before Yussuf finally opened the scoring as Jackson finished off an impressive passing move with an incisive through ball for the City marksman to run on to and slot home.

The hosts appeared to wake up after falling behind as they went in search of an equaliser, but they lacked the creativity to cause City any big problems.

The lively Ben McKenna beat the offside trap shortly before the break, but his shot from a tight angle was beaten away, with Liam Dickinson blasting wide from the corner.

And the home side’s resistance was finally broken just after the hour mark as a long ball found Yussuf onside, and he gleefully raced through to net his second.

A frustrated Stalybridge never looked likely to get themselves back into the game after this and despite half-chances for McKenna and Aidan Chippendale they succumbed to the inevitable.

The victory moves City up to sixth, a point ahead of Stockport County and Boston United.
