ALFIE Potter is focusing on putting in the hard yards as he attempts to rediscover his form.
The winger has readily admitted he found it difficult to regain his confidence last season after going under the knife for the first time.
While his ankle has long since healed, Potter is yet to hit top gear this term.
The 25-year-old is keeping his targets strictly short-term and knows there is only one way back.
“I'm going to take it game-by-game now, I'm not going to say I'm getting back to my best or whatever, because I know I'm not,” he said.
“Hard work is the only way out of it.
“People go through dips in form and you’re only going to get that confidence back by working hard on the training pitch.”
Potter came within inches of getting a much-needed confidence boost against Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend.
After superbly controlling a Michael Collins through ball, he sprinted clear and shot past goalkeeper Liam O’Brien, only for the ball to strike the foot of the post.
Potter said: “I did think it was in because after I hit it I couldn’t really see.
“All I heard was the crowd go up at first and I was ready to celebrate, but then I looked back and everyone was playing on.
“I was gutted, I thought I did everything right apart from score.
“When things are going your way that hits the inside of the post and goes in, but I’m pretty confident we will start getting the rub of the green soon.”
