YASMIN Hawkins, 11, is national champion, having won a gold medal in the British Schools’ Championships in Sheffield.
The pupil from Fir Tree School, Wallingford, not only won the 28kg title, but also fought her way through to the final of the under 32kg competition.
Her coach, Steve Hutton, said: “This was a fantastic achievement for a girl of her age to compete at this level at a major tournament.”
Fir Tree enjoyed more success when dominating the Southern Counties Schools’ Championship, where they collected 14 medals, including nine golds.
