BEN Claridge shattered White Horse Harriers’ 400m record when storming to victory at the Radley Open.

Claridge clocked 49.93secs to pass the Wantage-based club’s previous mark of 51.5 set by Andy Edwards.

He is now ranked fourth in the UK at under 17 level and also has the English Schools’ qualifying mark.

Abingdon’s Will Barrett won the under 11 boys’ QuadKids title at the same meeting, scoring 226 points in the four-discipline event.

Tom Couzens and Jake Cherry led the way for Bicester athletes.

Couzens won the under 13 boys’ long jump in 4.13m and was also second in the 800m with a time of 2mins 37.25secs and the high jump (1.30).

Cherry triumphed in the under 15 boys’ javelin with a throw of 32.97m.

Bicester’s Mille Couzens came home in second place in the under 11 event with a score of 204.

This saw her record personal bests in the 75m (11.9), 600m (2.06) and long jump (3.53).

  •  THERE were course records at both of Oxfordshire’s parkruns on Saturday.

Oxford University athlete Christopher Phillips-Hart set a new best at the Abingdon event, clocking 15mins 39secs to shave three seconds off the previous mark.

Meanwhile, visitor Tom Adams (Ilkley Harriers) equalled the Oxford course record set by Ian Kimpton (Luton) with a 15.38 clocking.

  • ELYSIA Ridley finished ninth in the elite ladies’ race at the British Duathlon Championships in Corby.

The 27-year-old Witney Road Runner was happy with her performance at the Rockingham Motor Racing Circuit.

Ridley, from Ascott-under-Wychwood, completed the 5km run, 20km bike, 2.5km run course in an impressive 1hr 2mins 39secs.

Her split times were 18mins 3secs, 33.27 and 10.05.
