A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy and his mother have been taken to hospital after a crash on the A34 yesterday morning after which ambulance crews said they were 'extremely lucky' to be alive.
The pair were left with 'potentially serious' injuries after the incident, which involved six cars and an HGV.
Three more adults were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with minor injuries and 12 people treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The smash took place between the B430 at Weston-on-the-Green and M40 J9 at Bicester, near Wendlebury.
South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said: "We were called at 10.39am following a collision involving six cars and an HGV on the A34 northbound at Wendlebury.
"We sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an officer to the scene."
The boy and his mother were taken to hospital and 12 more patients with minor injuries were treated by crews at the scene.
Mr Gallagher added: "Our officer at the scene has said the mum and child were extremely lucky.
"The back of their car was completely destroyed and had anyone been sitting as a back seat passenger they would have been killed."
Congestion was running back Peartree Interchange following the incident.
The crash took place a few hundred metres before the slip road for the M40.
Some bus services were temporarily affected.
