AN "exclusive" assisted living development will be launched in autumn 2017 at Didcot's new Great Western Park estate.

The development is expected to be the first of its kind in South Oxfordshire, providing 60 one-and two-bedroom apartments, landscaped gardens and on-site parking.

McCarthy and Stone's development will be aimed at over-70s and the firm has promised to provide "the benefits of luxury retirement living with comfort and convenience".

Work began on the site this summer with hopes that residents will be able to move in at the start of autumn next year.

McCarthy and Stone marketing director Kim Caldwell said: "The development is set to provide all the benefits of luxury retirement living, as well as comfort and convenience, making it an ideal option for retirees looking to live in Didcot."

The firm said homeowners will be able to retain their independence through home ownership but also have 24/7 security and support services on hand.

Visiting family and friends will be able to stay in guest suites and there will be an on-site table service restaurant, function room and lounge.

Ms Caldwell added: "We are advising retirees to get in touch to experience for themselves the high quality and fantastic service our homeowners have come to expect.

"Residents will also be able to enjoy a club lounge to socialise and relax, and landscaped gardens maintained by a skilled team.

"Homeowners can benefit from help and support from qualified and friendly staff who will be on hand day and night and support packages can be tailored to suit varying needs, with an hours domestic help every week included as part of the service charge."

The news of the development comes after the first primary school on the site opens its doors to students this September and £4m worth of sports facilities are taken out of the district council's control and handed to a local sports association.
