2. A cat has been blamed for starting a kitchen fire

A CAT has been blamed for starting a cooker fire in Wallingford.

Fire crews were called at 6pm on Wednesday to a house in High Street to tackle the blaze.

A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire Service said the fire started when the cat "knocked a plastic bag onto the electric hob and then inadvertently pushed the touch button control, with its paw."

3. A man threatened children with a knife in a park in Witney 

Five schoolchildren were playing in Cogges Park when a man removed a knife from his clothes and gestured for them to come towards him.

Two boys and three girls aged between nine and 11 were in the Church Lane park at about 6.45pm on Tuesday when they noticed a man nearby.

As they left the park the man approached them, removed a six to eight inch knife from his clothes and gestured with a knife for them to come towards him.

As the children ran away the man followed them.

4. Tributes have been paid to a father who lost his life on the Wolvercote Roundabout on Friday

The family of Emmanuel Vernon Jacob have paid tribute to the father-of-two after he died in a crash on the A44 at the Wolvercote Roundabout last Friday.

Mr Jacob, who was on his bicycle on May 20, collided with a HGV.

His family said: "Emmanuel, who was from Oxford, was a caring, fun loving and sociable man that was tragically taken from us too soon.

"He will be fondly remembered as the life and soul of every gathering, his caring nature and his infectious laugh.

“His family wish to thank everyone for their kind words, support and sympathy at this difficult time.

5. A Cowley Road takeaway has been given a zero-hygiene rating after complaints about rats and flies

A COWLEY Road chicken shop has been given a zero food hygiene rating after flies, rats and an "unpleasant" stench were reported at the premises.

Peri Peri Original was slammed by Oxford City Council environmental health officers after an inspection last month and given nine improvement notices.

The owners could face up to two years in prison if the notices are not complied with.
