A remembrance service for families who have lost children through stillbirth will be held later this month in Headington.

Oxfordshire Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Deaths charity) will be holding its annual service of remembrance for the families of lost babies, on November 30 at 2.30pm, at St Anthony of Padua Church, Headington.

Karen Hancox of Oxfordshire Sands said the event “brings families much comfort, especially as we approach Christmas”.

She added: “Although baby loss is a taboo subject, it affects more families in our county than many people realise.”

Oxfordshire Sands provides support to families affected by the death of a baby.

It also promotes research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.

The charity works closely with John Radcliffe and Horton Hospitals to provide families with the help they need.

The service will include poems, prayers, music and families can lights candles for their babies during the service.

A team of “befrienders” will be at hand to speak to families about their experiences during the services.

The service is a mixture of secular and religious content, but all are welcome.
