IT IS often said not to judge a book by its cover, but at Curious Fox’s fun day young readers took matters into their own hands and designed the books themselves.

The children’s publisher held the event on Monday to show children how books are made and give them a chance to use their imaginations and get hands-on with the process.

Five-year-old Daisy Nunn was one of the young publishers who got involved at the offices in Jordan Hill, North Oxford.

She said: “I made a book cover for a book about dogs.

“I used coloured paper and pens and crayons and sparkly glue and googly eyes.

“I love reading and my favourite books are books about princesses.”

He dad Dan Nunn, who works for Curious Fox’s parent company Raintree, said: “I am on the educational side so it is quite nice to take the kids into work.

“It is great to see kids getting into reading.

“There was a library hunt so we had copies of all the books we published and the kids had to go off and find them.

“We wanted to get kids more interested in books and I think they all had a great day.”
