Youngsters pedalled their way to victory as Bicester hosted its third annual cycling fun day.

The Bicester Bike and Family Fun Day was held on Saturday and included a barbecue and bicycle repair tips.

Thomas Ford, seven, won the under-eights race on the road bike he received as an early present for his birthday later this month.

Dad Darren, 40, said the family had travelled from Reading as his son wanted to try racing his new bike.

He said: “It was great and really enjoyable. It was his first time riding so he did really well.

“The people were nice and really welcoming so we might make the effort to go again next year.”

He said his son later came third in the under-10s race, which also involved three laps of the Pingle Field course.

The event, which ran from 11am to 3pm, was organised by North West Bicester developers and A2Dominion and was backed by groups including Bicester Millennium Cycle Club and Broadribbs Cycles.

The Bicester Neighbourhood Team from Thames Valley Police was also on hand to security mark bicycles.
