A PHARMACY chain is closing its shop in the centre of Witney and moving to a health centre.
Lloyds Pharmacy will make the switch from the High Street to the Windrush Medical Centre, in Welch Way, in January next year.
It will work alongside the centre to focus on conditions like diabetes, asthma and skin health, while continuing to offer prescription services.
But elderly residents said they would be sad to see the current premises close.
Michael Mann, 77, of Early Road, said: “I accept change but I don’t have indefinite stamina to walk too far, so I stay in the High Street when I go into town.
“It will be a real extra journey for me and it seems they’re moving out of the flow of the public.
“I’m extremely disappointed, because it’s part of my Witney experience and I’ve used it for 30 years.
“If I want to see a doctor, I have to wait three weeks, but you can get advice from a pharmacist in minutes.”
Lloyds Pharmacy spokeswoman Jade Devlin said: “Witney is an important area to us, and with the pharmacy’s High Street property lease coming to an end, we seized the opportunity to create a new style of pharmacy, that will provide improved healthcare services for the residents of Witney and the local area. The Lloyds Pharmacy at the Windrush Medical Centre will be part of our new approach to community pharmacy, which has a much greater emphasis on health.
“It will have a modern, fresh design, with a broad range of products, together with a private care room.”
