WHILE David Cameron dines on the fine fare provided by the taxpayer in the Commons, patients in his constituency are having to stomach the result of years of neglect towards hospital food.

The fact Witney Community Hospital has been rated third worst in the country for food quality should sit uneasily in the gut of the PM.

The notion of healthy food is not a new one, with plenty of media and government attention on school meals. But equally important is good, nutritious and appetising food on the NHS. It deserves as much work and commitment as the drugs used to treat patients confined to their hospital beds.

Hopefully Mr Cameron won’t cook up a quick-fix plan but will ensure the problem is properly tackled.
