I was appalled on a visit to Oxford city centre on Saturday to see and hear several people at Bonn Square armed with a megaphone, table and petition berating Nato’s response to the evil regime called IS (Not Isis as our fair river is called).

May I thank those who took part getting this year’s Leys Festival up and running. There was 12 months of planning the events with the steering group, Oxfordshire Play Association (OPA) and officers of the city council who made this possible.

Your article (“Fears as boat owners’ group claims new area of riverbank”, September 9) about the attempts by the “Communities Land and Boat Organisation” to claim land in West Oxford for moorings highlights the desperate need for suitable mooring sites for residential boats.
