MOVING their annual event from the Bank Holiday Monday to Sunday for the first time certainly paid off for Brize Norton villagers.

Thanks to the timely decision the village day was a great success and a sunny one too, said Bob Watts, who organised the day’s Aunt Sally games with his wife Margaret.

The 75-year-old said: “It was the first time we’d ever held it on a Sunday, which was lucky because the weather was wonderful, but it rained on Monday. There were a lot of unusual activities on offer, as well as a display of old photographs of how the village used to be.”

Also on offer at the village event was cricket, tea and cake, and a flower and vegetable show.

Mr Watts added: “I think they will definitely want to hold it on the Sunday again next year, after it was so successful.

“There are lots of things on Monday already, so we tried to be different this year.”
