ELECTRICITY has been sent into the National Grid from the Ardley incinerator for the first time.
The £200m plant near Bicester is expected to generate enough electricity to power 38,000 homes when it comes into full operation in the autumn.
It is expected to burn 300,000 tonnes of waste per year.
Rod Lerwell, general manager Ardley ERF, said: “I’m so proud to see the facility starting to come to life in these final stages. We’re close to completion and I look forward to taking over from all the teams who have worked in partnership to bring us to this point.”
The facility will divert 95 per cent of Oxfordshire’s residential waste away from landfill, according to Ardley ERF.
