CHILDREN spent yesterday clowning around at a one-off circus skills session at the Cornerstone Arts Centre, Didcot.
Instructor and professional circus performer Roslyn Walker said: “I’m here as part of the summer project that they’re running. They’re doing a series of things for children and I’m one of them. There’s a whole range of circus skills I teach – unicycle, stilt walking, juggling, tightrope walking, scarf tricks – all sorts.”
The day was open to children aged seven to 13, from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
Mr Walker, from north Wales, said: “Circus skills is open to a whole mix of ages and abilities, because you’re not competing against other children.
“Whether you can juggle one ball or seven balls there’s always somewhere more for you to go. The kids are all enjoying themselves because they’ve all learned stuff they didn’t know before.”
Mr Walker, 33, became interested in circus skills aged just 10, when he learned to juggle.
He said: “After that I got books out of the library and taught myself other things until I went to circus school when I was 14. I’ve been on the professional circus circuit ever since.”
