A ONE-WAY system is to be set up outside Eynsham Primary School from September to alleviate traffic problems.

The restrictions will be implemented by the entrance in Beech Road before and after school.

It follows a traffic survey carried out by pupils, in which they asked parents and residents if the measures would help.

Teacher James Hazel, who is overseeing the project, said: “We’ve had a few problems with congestion and it’s been very difficult to get in and out of school.

“Residents found cars were blocking their exits and weren’t able to get out in the morning and afternoon.

“The survey came back with a positive response showing that people want to do it. The pupils have really enjoyed being able to make a difference to their community.”

Eynsham PCSO has also helped with the project, which was trialled from June 30 to July 4.

Drivers will only be allowed to drive one-way in a clockwise direction in Beech Road and Millmoor Crescent.

Pupils volunteered by showing drivers which way to go during the trial, but it is hoped signs will be installed by the beginning of next term.

Mr Hazel, who said the school is still working out how it will be enforced, said it may operate from 8.15am to 9am and 2.45pm to 3.30pm.
