TRAFFIC this morning seems to be moving a little better than yesterday's chaos.

Park End Street was shut yesterday as Thames Water begins repair work on a sewer that has partially collapsed because of a 'fatberg' - a mass of fat and other items flushed down drains.

It led to horrific traffic delays yesterday and these are expected to continue over the project's two-week schedule.

So far this morning:

  • Abingdon Road is moving. Queuing in Oxpens and Hollybush Row.
  • Traffic is largely now stationary on Botley Road.
  • Queuing traffic southbound on the A34 leading to Botley.
  • Traffic is stacked up to Eynsham Road and on the A420 approaching the Botley interchange. One of our reporters is saying it is worse this morning than it was at the same time 24 hours ago.
  • Traffic is building up in Beaumont Street but Banbury Road and St Giles is clear. So far that route is running more smoothly than yesterday, taking an estimated 30 minutes from North Oxford to the station.
  • The approaches on the A34 at Hinksey Hill are also beginning to see queues. West Way is also queueing.
  • The bus companies are not reporting any delays above those expected because of having to divert some of their routes.

We will update this information as it comes to hand for this morning's rush hour.
