A TEENAGE girl has told a jury that a young boxer was “grooming” her for sex and plied her with cannabis.

Clinton Townsend, a successful member of the Oxford Boxing Academy, is on trial at Oxford Crown Court accused of having sex with two young teenage girls.

Yesterday, on the third day of his trial, the 20-year-old admitted repeatedly breaching a court order banning him from contacting girls under the age of 18.

He had already pleaded guilty to three breaches of the same order and perverting the course of justice after he asked one girl to withdraw her witness statement.

But Townsend denies five counts of engaging in sexual activity with children, in relation to two girls, and two counts of common assault.

Yesterday one of the complainants in the case, who cannot be named for legal reasons, gave evidence from behind a screen.

The 16-year-old told the jury she had sex with Townsend at his home on three occasions last year when she was 15.

The witness said: “He told me, if my mum comes in, say you’re 16.”

She added: “He would always meet me with weed and he would always give me some. I think it was just to have sex with me.”

Asked why she stopped seeing the defendant, the girl said: “I realised what he was doing – he was grooming me.”

The jury was told Townsend, of Field Assarts near Leafield, West Oxfordshire, appeared before the same court in January 2013 after admitting similar crimes. At that hearing, he was given a sexual offences prevention order barring him from having any unsupervised contact with girls under 18 or using a computer without police permission.

The trial continues.
