Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has provided an update on a serious lorry crash which closed the M40 throughout the afternoon and evening on Tuesday (April 30). 

The rescue service said in a statement this morning that its rescue tender and an appliance from Rewley Road Fire Station in Oxford attended the crash.

The Oxford crew was on the scene for a few hours after a lorry crashed into a bridge.

No updates have yet been provided on the condition of the lorry driver. 

The serious incident caused the M40 to be closed in both directions.

National Highways announced at around 1.30am that the road had reopened. Traffic was flowing freely at the scene in time for the morning rush hour.

The organisation also confirmed that central reservation barrier repairs have been completed. 

The matter is now under police investigation.
