An ancient six-bedroom farmhouse with barns, workshops and seven cottages has come on the market for £3.25million.

The owners of Bishopsland, near Henley, ran the highly regarded Bishopsland Silversmith Workshops out of two of the outbuildings.

Since it opened in 1993, more than 270 students have taken advantage of the scheme and in 2023 Oliver and Penelope Makeover were awarded a lifetime achievement award by Goldsmiths' Craft and Design Council.

The farmhouse dates to the 16th century and features Elizabethan oak panelling, ancient beams, oak and quarry tiled floors, a large fireplace in the drawing room and a galleried landing.

On the ground floor is a reception hall, drawing room, study and dining room with a corridor down to the rear hall with the main and secondary kitchens, walk-in pantry and a bathroom.

The main staircase goes up to a galleried landing with exposed beams, leading to the main bedroom with en suite bathroom and four further bedrooms (one with a cloakroom) and two further bathrooms.

A second staircase drops from the end of the landing to the rear hall by the kitchens.

On the second floor is a sixth bedroom with a shower and a self-contained flat with two bedrooms, sitting room, kitchen and bathroom.

The three-floor Stables contains a large workshop, kitchenette, office and two cloakrooms on the ground floor, a sitting room, two bedrooms and shower room on the first floor and a snug on the second floor with vaulted ceilings with huge oak trusses.

Property agent Victoria Knight, head of office at Savills Henley-on-Thames, said: “Bishopsland presents a myriad of opportunities. The Grade II listed Elizabethan farmhouse would make a beautiful family home, while the barns, workshops and cottages have plenty of scope for commercial development.

"The main house dates to the 16th century with later additions and provides the bones for a wonderful character home.

"Sitting on the edge of the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the property also has uninterrupted views across surrounding the countryside, complemented by easy access to Henley-on-Thames and all its amenities.”
